Leaving on a jet plane
Tatton Park this afternoon.
The rural idyll is broken from time to time by the loud sound of aircraft taking off from nearby Manchester airport. Tatton Park is on the flight path. This one is heading to Dalaman in Turkey (Flight Radar is a wonderful thing).
Many economies have become hugely dependent on tourism, and cheap travel is something we have come to take for granted. The pandemic has provided a huge shock to all that. Whether the impact is short, medium or long term we will have to wait and see.
We have not travelled abroad for over 2 years, and in current circumstances it’s out of the question. It’s a long time since I enjoyed the whole experience of arriving at an airport, relaxing before the flight, and the flight itself, All the security measures imposed post 9/11 put paid to that. And COVID-19 just rules the whole thing out for us. When we do feel safe to travel and stay somewhere away from home, it will be on these shores. .
