Clamming drippings percolate

They are certainly percolating in Oxfordshire today - it hasn't stopped raining.

The quote on this piece of stone lettering, "In the undercroft / in the crypt of the wood / clammy drippings percolate", comes from David Jones' WWI poem, "In Parenthesis", and was carved by Richard Kindersley.  David Jones was one of the best WWI poets but never recovered from his war experiences.  At one time he was engaged to Eric Gill's daughter but in the end he never married and had at least two nervous breakdowns.
