Tying in the Ends

It’s amazing how a little face to face contact can brighten up my day. I had an outdoor socially distanced coffee with a friend and although it was another day of east wind and haar, it was relatively warm. The sun was quite persistent in its attempt to break through the mist and managed it to a degree after lunch.

I also had a very welcome phone call from Raheny Eye in Ireland and we caught up with the news from both sides of the Irish Sea, the conversation ranging from his daily immersion in that very Sea, to education during lockdown and the imminent arrival of storm Ellen, but not forgetting, of course, a nod to Pensioner’s wedding with his floral shirt and red braces.

There followed in the Dower House a spot of baking and then a long overdue walk ,as opposed to a long walk overdue, round the policies with a soothing seat at the tennis courts listening to the thwack of tennis balls on cat gut.

I have to finish off the latest stress busting beanie this evening by darning in the ends, washing it and blocking it over a Pyrex bowl. All in a day’s work.
