Redundant stile

Rain and my back have limited activity and creativity today so I have resorted to a photo I took recently of an old, redundant stile. What made it interesting that there was no sign that there had a fence or wall beside it in the past. Did someone install a stile and forget to put in the fence? Someone did think it was important to add a way mark sign. The next stile in the wall above required climbing skills to summit and then dropped into a bed of tall nettles. Needless to say we found an alternative route.
