Smoke Taint

There wasn't much point in social distancing since we can't even go outside. I took this picture at about noon today. The sky was brown and the sun was red.

There were hundreds of lightning strikes during the storm Sunday night and Monday morning. A lot of them ignited fires in Napa and Sonoma counties that are starting to join together. Other fires are burning along the Central Coast.
There aren't enough resources in the state to fight so many fires burning at once.
PG&E helicopters were flying low over the house this morning checking the power lines.
Ali couldn't make it this morning. He said his body wouldn't let him work today. He thinks he's on the track of the problem...something to do with the well pump wiring.
Yesterday's evacuation order north of the Russian River has been extended.
We had a smoky sunset last night (extra)
Ash covered the ground like snow this morning. We swept it up but it keeps coming down.
It's been utterly still and quiet today.
It's also utterly hot but not quite as bad as it has been. The red flag (heat) warning lasts through tomorrow night.
There is no wind here yet, thank goodness.
It's eerie.

John and I thought we ought to have an evacuation plan, just in case. It was largely unresolved because where would we go? How do we get there with an 85 pound that can barely walk? I always thought it was good to have a plan, and John was a boy scout whose motto was "Be Prepared", but for what?

I'm having some sort of sinus/allergy attack which must be from smoke.
Those masks will serve double duty now, if we even step foot out the door.
