Baby slowworm

This slowworm was lying on the top layer in a compost bin full of oak leaves, enjoying the sun, until it was disturbed by someone looking to see if the slowworms were still there. They are quite common in Upminster and I used to dig them up sometimes, but haven't ever seen one so small and so red. Unfortunately you can't see its head, as it escaped downwards.
