Family Medicine Ethiopia

These are Ethiopia's first five family medicine residents, on their first day! Pretty exciting. In three years, they will become the country's first family doctors. Hopefully they will bridge the gap in health care that currently exists between specialists and nurses, midwives, health officers, and health extension workers. Ethiopia is desperately short of physicians (2000 docs for over 80 million people), so five family docs will only be a drop in the bucket. We hope the program can be scaled up quickly to accomodate all the new medical students who will be graduating in a few years.
