Prestatyn in February
The hotel in this pic is called The Sands and is now owned by Pontins who have a holiday camp across the road, just to the right of this photo. It was originally built as the rather grand Eswardian golf club house for Prestatyn's championship course. When I was growing up it was known as The Grand Hotel and was painted pink with white stucco. It's always had an imposing position on its own on the front. We had a really clear view of it from our house on the hill. It burned down in the early 80s a day or so before Christmas. It was a spectacular fire. I remember watching the flames reach high into the sky. When they rebuilt it they chose this sand coloured pebbledash and didn't even attempt to recreate the Edwardian Splendour. Shame really but punctuates the landscape well in this shot.
