History wherever I look

I am staying in a house on the military base at RAF Topcliffe.

RAF Topcliffe is a bit of a misnomer, as the main base is occupied by 4th Regiment Royal Artillery - the base is better known as Alanbrooke Barracks.

It is filled with many historic buildings, some of which I will put up here.

I love old military bases, and I am delighted that I get to work here - full of ghosts and stories and whispers of the past.

The inscription on the plaque says this:

"An Iraqi D30 captured on OP GRANBY by 40th Regiment Royal Artillery, 7th Armoured Brigade (The Desert Rats) Kuwait 1991."

The Desert Rats!!! Legends of the past!
