Avoid having a competing focal point - make sure your shot has one clear subject, and also that the focal point is where your eye settles.

We have had a lovely day with Dad. We went into Milngavie for lunch at Garvie and Co- a bar/ restaurant that used to be a soft drinks factory. The food was really fabulous. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

After that, we had ( quite possibly the best ice cream in the world- but there is another contender to try tomorrow).
