A whopper of a Hoverfly!

A cool overcast windy day, with the odd shower, but I managed to get the lawns cut in the dry and it was just about warm enough to invite a neighbour round for a cuppa in the garden, which is where I came across this monster. At first I thought it was a type of bee, but thanks to google, I’ve identified it as a species of Hoverfly.

Today should’ve been the first day of my four week French road trip. With the recent introduction of quarantine on travellers arriving in the U.K. from France, just as well I made the decision to change the ferry tickets last month. Am already counting down the days, 301 to go...
