RAF Topcliffe

First day of three at RAF Topcliffe.

I love this place. We're in the old Control Tower, and the memories that it holds seem to fill the air in the place. On one side of the airfield, are the old WW2 hangars - and I am sure I've said this already, but I wonder what stories they could tell of adventure, and disaster and hope and sadness.

The army base is ironically one of the most peaceful places I''ve stayed at. I went for a walk tonight and it was utterly quiet - bats flitting around in the twilight, and majestic brick buiildings brooding in the half light, framed by static artillery pieces, or memorials.

It feels like it is cloaked in history and stories of valour.

I feel very at home.
