Vasaloppet

We did some km today at Ursvik outside Stockholm which was a new track for me. A friend of mines is attending Vasaloppet this year. The worlds longest and biggest (in terms of participants) cross country ski race with its 90km. Its held annually (since 1922) on the first sunday in march from Sälen to Mora. There are 7 different races during the week and she will attend the TjejVasan with only women in the race and the distance is 30km.

Where we skied today they have this replica of the goal in Vasaloppet. Here the sponsor proudly presents themselves in the text. At the real goal in Mora it says something like: "In the fathers tracks for future victories". As the history tells us that in year 1520, the young nobleman Gustav Ericsson Vasa was escaping from the troops of Christian II, king of Denmark, Sweden and Norway (the Kalmar Union). In year 1523 Gustav Vasa was crowned king of Sweden, having defeated the Danish king Christian and dissolved the Kalmar Union.
