Kowhai
My old kowhai is just beginning to burst into it's annual show of yellow. A little gardening achieved - it's always lovely to be out there getting the hands mucky and building up some natural heat on a cooler day, though these visits do always seem to remind me at every turn just how much needs to be done! Bring on the sunshine tomorrow and I
l'll be out there again, though I do have a couple of hours or exam supervision to do tomorrow afternoon.
The sentencing of the Christchurch Mosque shooter continued today. Back in March when the event was far too fresh in the world's minds, Jacinda Ardern said "He sought many things from his act of terror, but one was notoriety - that is why you will never hear me mention his name." It is both heartbreaking and inspiring to hear the victim impact statements being read out in court, and not one of them uttered the gunman's name in doing so. And as the court hearing was reported by the national TV broadcaster today, it was clear they too were intent on not giving oxygen to his name. A simple yet powerful act of collective, passive strength.
In COVID news, there were 7 new cases today and 1 recovered, bringing the active total up to 129. I'm feeling that - all being well - the next 10 days or so will begin to see a drop in the active case number.
