Birth Days

I found this on Saturday morning.

It is tiny, so the little thing that emerged will also be tiny. It has to do some growing over three to four weeks so it can successfully fledge, and then feed up and get the hang of things before heading south to central Africa.

In the meantime it’s parents have had to brave the remnants of storm Ellen and now storm Francis, and whatever else is thrown at them and us in this unseasonal late summer, so they can feed the tiny chick. .

If it fledges in these circumstances it will be a miracle. Although looking at this soft shelled capsule, it’s a miracle from the start.

We have had a day in whilst the wind blows and the rain lashes down outside. A birthday here. Lots of phone and (this being 2020) video calls. And mysteries - to receive her presents J had to answer quiz questions.

It’s been a good day notwithstanding “Storm Francis” blowing and splashing outside. Which some enjoyed (extra. J’s reaction to this sliding over our window was “yuk”. So not to everyone’s taste)
