After the Storm (widwed260820)

I thought I would try something new for this week's Wide Wednesday and have gone for a vertical panorama.  Three images shot at 11mm in landscape mode one above the other.  The view is looking along the rail cutting behind our house,  on the ground you can see some of the smaller dead branches brought down by Storm Francis, although for us it was just a very windy day.

Many of the trees in the cutting are self seeded Ash which are now sadly succumbing to Ash die back and so looking a little less healthy each year.  The one in the top left of the image is the biggest one in this part of the cutting and it remains relatively healthy at the moment. It is, however, next to one which shows several of the signs on infection.  You might see a couple of odd healthy looking  new twigs growing out from the horizontal section of the one in the centre of the image - I had thought that was a good sign, but it is apparently one of the symptoms and a response of the tree to stress. We have already taken some dead wood from that one.

No progress with us owning the cutting, but in any event we would have to deal with the large ash currently infected before we could do much.

I'll go through the wide Wednesday entries today and star and comment on them - catch up with the rest tomorrow and announce the favourites and honourable mentions in my blip tomorrow.
