The dropped stitch

Flotta

In the middle of a meter reading day, what better than a spare two hours for a walk on Flotta?

The island's name comes from the Norse for 'flat isle', and on a day with clear skies there are wonderful wide views.

I love the contrasts of this island. Your first impression is dominated by the oil terminal, its automatic entry gates and high wire fence round the perimeter. Yet 10 minutes walk up the road and the landscape is of fields, moorland and small crofts.

The community noticeboard outside the school reveals various covid-related cancellations and changes to regular services. The shop opening hours shown in Extras.
