Midgeaggedon

I’ve been rather smug over the last few days as we’ve been enjoying dry weather and quite a bit of sunshine while the rest of Scotland appears to have had constant rain.
Our forecast today was for more sunshine but unfortunately it changed overnight and we woke up to the unexpected sound of rain. The rain seemed to bring out the midges (again after our first night they haven’t really been a problem) in their droves! We still made it to the Fairy Pools as planned but had our picnic lunch in the car and fought off the rain, mud and clouds of midges on our path up to and around the pools. Some brave (or v foolish) young people were even swimming there, one chap in his birthday suit! I was very annoyed that the one time we really needed them we’d left our blooming midge head nets in the cottage!
