"On a mote of dust...

...suspended in a sunbeam." -- Carl Sagan
I invite you to watch this brief video of planet Earth in space and Carl Sagan reflecting on the significance and insignificance of all that humankind has experienced.*  It has helped me find perspective during this week of political duress. FYI: Yesterday's blip was of the CD cover, not the painting.

As Voyager 1 completed its mission in 1977 and continued on to later become the first human-built craft to leave the Solar System, astronomer and author Carl Sagan suggested NASA turn the probe’s camera around for one last photograph of Earth across the vast expanse of space. Finally in 1989 NASA’s Administrator interceded to ensure the photo’s realization. From that image Sagan coined the phrase ‘pale blue dot’ to describe Earth’s significant insignificance in the heavens.

*It is what inspired the musician (along with Innerpeace Police) to write the eponymous song, create the CD,  When I saw this painting while we were walking through Taos, I knew this painting should be the new CD's cover.
