Damson harvest
The wild damsons are ripe and ready for picking. Recently, clotted cream has been on sale in the local supermarkets, so stewed damsons and clotted cream will be on the menu again, the first time since I first had this combination on a holiday to Devon and Cornwall in the early 1980's.
While removing any stems from the fruit I noticed some of them had a small hole in them; this being the exit for the caterpillar of the plum moth which has developed within the fruit, leaving an unsavory mess inside what looks like a fairly normal fruit. Some of last year's plums suffered similarly, we were spared that in the current year as the plum harvest was non-existent.
