Rang-er
My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,
I was nice to Caro today. Don't get me wrong, I am nice to her every day. But today was her first weekend after going back to work. And it has been a tough week.
Short version of the story: During Caro's time off, NZ immigration changed the rules AGAIN, so she's been playing catch-up all week.
You don't want to hear the long version of the story.
Me being nice to Caro means putting things on the telly that she likes and making her nice food. At this very moment, "The Bachelor Australia" is on, and I've got an apple crumble in the oven.
I can just about stomach "The Bachelor Australia". There are lots of other Caro shows that drive me from the room. Anything that celebrates rich, stupid people being rich and stupid for example. But I generally like Australians. Although "The Bachelor" does not celebrate the best in human nature.
Essentially it's a bunch of women in a mansion all talking about much they HATE each other. Caro LOVES programmes where people hate each other. I feel I can join in with this, because people on The Bachelor are really bloody hideous. So I watch the show with Caro. And say, "eff's sake" occasionally. And this makes her very happy. It's kind of an interactive show, and I know she likes to have someone to discuss it with.
There's one woman who is a "rang-er". Which I think is the Aussie term for a red-headed person. She has major issues about this and has blown it up into a huge thing. "Eff's sake," I said. And Caro agreed.
Caro also likes shows where people compete against each other in physical challenges. So I'm also downloading "Australian Ninja Warrior" for her. I told her this.
"What? You're downloading, 'Australian Minge'?" she asked in all seriousness.
"Yes. That's exactly the name of the programme I'm downloading," I replied.
"I wonder if they judge them," she speculated. "That's a nice, tidy one. Well-groomed."
"Uh-oh, we've got a rang-er," I replied.
For some reason we both found this hysterically funny. I just had to turn The Bachelor off while we caught our breath.
So that's me, being nice to Caro. She seems very happy. And now I shall have to leave you. One of the women has turned up on the show dressed as a penguin.
