Typical Westland house
The sky is full of clouds these days and the one moment the clouds look gently and white like here, and the following moment they blackened and grew grey and rain pours out of them; all very Autumnal the weather is.
This street was called Tomatenlaan / Tomato lane and had lots of glass wharehouses plus some houses like this one of the cultivators/owners; almost 20 years ago the city of Den Haag started to reorganize this region and has built here lots of new houses for its citizens. It's not very far away from my home... 15 minutes on a bike?!
The planning for extending the city of Den Haag at the cost of its neighbouring suburbs started in the mid 60-ies of the past Century. The plans than seemed insane to most of the people and resistance against them was huge; so they were put back in the drawer (as we say so).
But every few years onwards they were taken out and altered a little and surely presented again to the councils of the suburbs.
In February 1992 the city of Den Haag had its plans passed from its neighbouring suburbs and soon all who owned here a house and/or a wharehouse learned they had to sell that to the city and to move out. Out! out, Out! Most did so in the end and some not, like them of this house.
I didn't go around today to ask how come this house + glasswharehouse survived that time of buying-up... apparently they did; favoritism?!
Thank you all for passing by & wishing you a Happy Weekend!
