Tansy
There is a car park, another car park, not the one belonging to Anne Hathaway's, along the walk I do to Shottery. This backs onto some houses but on the other side is a fence beyond which is a wilderness. A real haven for wildflowers, grasses and trees. There is even an abandoned greenhouse in the midst. I'd like to go there and explore but I'm pretty sure it's private property.
A lot of the flowering is over now but these Tansy plants are still out, albeit not quite so yellow as they were. A candidate for Wild Flower Week hosted this week by Miranda1008.
Tansy is an aromatic plant of disturbed ground, rough grasslands, riverbanks and roadside verges. It has fern-like foliage and yellow flower heads that appear in clusters from July to October. It is a composite flower, so the flower heads are made up of lots of tiny flowers called 'disc florets', but no outer 'ray florets'. It has a long history of use for medicinal purposes and was cultivated by the Ancient Greeks. Now, many forms are available as decorative garden varieties, attracting a wide range of insects.
