Many Bilberries - few steps
A month ago I started harvesting bilberries but mentioned they hadn't reached their peak condition. Since then I've been out now and again gathering mostly for the freezer but also for breakfast, and now the berries have reached their max sweetness and size.
I've gathered 9 litres of berries in the freezer but this morning Jan suggested we go out for a real session of picking. We each took three 1 litre buckets and headed off. You can see Jan in action in her blip. At the end of the session we had collected another 7 litres between us, so now we have 15 litres frozen for the winter and spring and a pile in the fridge for the next few days.
As with the last few days the air is really clear, and cool unless you are in direct sunlight. The views, when you looked up from the ground, were long and the horizon sharp. The sky was blue, with cumulus clouds blowing by. However, this is the last of the sunny days for a while with rain promised for tomorrow, so it was good that we spent a large part of the day outside and in the forest, even if we never more than 5 minutes from our house!
Bilberries were also picked on the 13 August and I've just backblipped that day, showing the view from a hilltop near Smitingen beach.
