Saturday night nostalgia

I had a hankering for a hamburger.

Not just any old burger but the ones I used to help Mum make on a Saturday night. She was a burger legend. I'm pretty sure that my sister and brother in law showed up for them, when they had girlfriend and boyfriend status.

Sometimes Mum and I made the bread buns on a Saturday morning. They featured homemade patties, lettuce, beetroot, egg, and lettuce.

The difference was Mum's homemade tomato sauce applied twice, toasting the buns first, and putting the completed burgers in a slightly warm oven for a few minutes. We reckoned that the flavours developed.

My take included avocado, cheese, greens from the garden, a pattie my butcher makes, and buns with stuff like almond meal instead of wheat flour.

Happy memories and a success.

Today's gratitude: For taking the time to appreciate my garden.
