Bourton-on-the-Water to Stow-on-the-Wold

The Cotswolds definitely have a thing for elaborate place names, don’t they? Minchinhampton, Shipton-under-Wychwood and Ampney Knowle are all places whose names make it seem like they would be well worth worth a visit. Today’s walk from Boughton-on-the-Water took us through Lower Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold, Maugersbury, Icomb and Wyck Rissington. Despite their elaborate names, they were reasonably indistinguishable from each other, each being made up of a group of delightful stone houses and very little human activity.

On arriving back in Boughton-on-the-Water we were desperate for a pint and a sit down, but so were seemingly half of the population of the country so we drove on to a quiet little pub in a village with an elaborate name and surrounded by delightful stone houses.

It’s been a delightful day, finished off with fish and chips, but we are now tired and aching. Getting old is a chore.
