Staring into a hole on a 4 ladder day
Yes, a four ladder day. You know how it is. The down pipe had come away from the gutter on the roof leading to water cascading down. There’d also been a 20 year issue where the weatherboarding adjoining the upstairs window had been susceptible to rain driving in.
It’s a challenge to get up there as it’s a chalet roof with bedroom windows jutting our over a steeply sloping roof which would be very easy to slip off.
The first ladder was extendable three tier job left behind by an untraceable electrician many years ago who was coming back to finish a job and didn’t come back. Not high enough. I was going to give up at this point so I went around the front with ladder two to get into the flat roof and then clear the gutters up there.
Our neighbour saw me balancing on this ladder and came across with a sturdier job to help out. He also had a longer ladder, number 4 which had a greater extension than ladder one.
So in the end I was able to repair the guttering, clear the gutters, repair the weatherboarding and apply a thick bead of sealant. Hurray.
We keep the big ladder at Doreen’s, so we’ve carried it back and forth this morning and afternoon, looking rather suspicious. We said we were practicing for the new Olympic event of Long Distance Ladder Carrying as it’s over a quarter of a mile each way.
On the way to collect the ladder this morning we passed one of the many holes dug by the gas people as they lay new gas mains. So, as you know, staring into a hole is obligatory, which what we did and why you’re looking at a hole in the road for MonoMonday.
