Evening Sunshine...

... If any shot sums up my emotions about today it's this one. The transition from late summer to autumn; the evening sunlight picking up the new hues alongside the outgoing ones, with a woody fragrance.

Today has been momentous and so exciting!
I took the camera down the garden and something so amazingly colourful flew past me! (Oh! And there was a red admiral too, which would have been remarkable in itself, given our lack of butterflies.. Until today). 

A kingfisher! (They are amazingly nippy in flight, so no images I'm afraid).

However, I  was fortunate to see this bird on ten occasions today. How lucky was that? On one of them it sat on a branch some ten feet from me.
I was too paralysed with breath-holding joy to lift the camera!

I watched it for long enough to appreciate a pattern of behaviour, and shall be in the same spot tomorrrow, hoping for more views. 

We shall see.
