Accessories!

That's what kids are to some folks. Maw,paw & 3 weans on a beach. Maw on her moibile for over 10 minutes all the while toddler 1 climbs up a rock & gets stuck. Maw still on phone. Toddlers 2&3 in middle of beach with paw. Toddler 1 gets stuck atop a boulder its managed to traverse & starts squealing it wants down. Maw still on phone a bit away from marooned toddler 1. Paw leaves toddlers 2&3 on ownsome in middle of beach tide coming in (but slowly) and ambles towards marooned toddler 1 (maw still on her phone) Paw extricates toddler 1 from rockface & begins to return to toddlers 2&3 who are still alone in the middle of beach (tide still coming in all be it slow)
Maw finally takes eyes off phone to go to paw & weans then takes a selfie of her & paw (not the weans)

Question. Are kids just yet another accessory  for parents to add to their expanding Instagram feed!
I know when mine were wee, you had an imaginery distance in your head where you would deem it safe enough for them to be away from you, I still do this with the dogs. I  never ventured far from my kids on the shore when they were wee! Yet I see todays  mothers walking along canal sides eyeballing their phones while their weans are only feet away from a sudden slip into the dark waters!
do todays parents have a much more care free attitude or were we overly protective!
