Return to Gotham City
The City is slowly being made into a traffic free zone. This is fine unless you need to transport cameras, lamps, lighting stands and colorama.
Wapping Village has not changed.
Cut off from the City by The Highway and St Katherine Docks, it's barely changed since Jack the Ripper was on his rounds.
I first knew it in 1982 when Metropolitan Wharf was occupied by squatters, mostly photographers and film-makers. Ten years later I was back, this time working for The Times in Pennington Street. The cobble stones are still there, as is my toughened glass window where I looked out over my drawing board and towards Tobacco Dock.
