Hugh Barton after presenting the cheque to Teresa
Hugh asked me to take a picture of the 'official' handover of a cheque to the local Save the Children representative, Teresa I.. Hugh had once again organised his annual choral concert, to be performed by a large number of singers in local choirs with an orchestra. He writes pieces for this choral group as well as conducting them whilst performing more formal classical pieces.
They had rehearsed regularly through the winter months and were about to perform it at a live event in the building behind them, the Stroud Subscription Rooms. Then Covid-19 arrived in its insidious ways and lockdown occurred.
They had already raised money through sales of tickets and many people decided not to demand refunds but to donate the money to the cause of helping refugees through the offices of the Save the Children Fund.
Teresa is holding the 'cheque' for £600 and as the chatted together I decided to record the moment for the two groups involved, so they could report back to their constituencies.
Hugh and I are both trustees of Stroud Preservation Trust.
