Subbuteo player
The Tiny Tuesday challenge today hosted by MaryElizaR was to " Find something tiny - don't think about finding a certain thing...look around and see what is there! Open your eyes and be surprised! ". So I scratched around in the kitchen drawers and found this little Subbuteo player. Just the one - no idea where the rest of his team are. From the colours on his strip I think perhaps he was part of the Aston Villa team - or maybe West Ham. He measures 2.5cm high.
I remember my brothers playing Subbuteo in the 60's and 70's and Neil had a few sets and accessories when he was a youngster.
Subbuteo was invented by Peter Adolph (1916–1994) It is a group of table top games simulating team sports such as association football, cricket, both codes of rugby and hockey. The name is most closely associated with the football game. What makes the game different from most other tabletop sports games are the hundreds of team kits and accessories. While most games feature only two teams Subbuteo has several hundred team designs, almost all representing real teams, with the notable exception of comic book legends Melchester Rovers. While there were many famous teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, these were complemented by many unique sides, such as Boston Minutemen, Landskrona, Hartford Bicentennials, Admira Wacker, and even unpainted models. There are also many additional accessories, such as balls and goals, special figures for free kicks and throw-ins, stands and crowd, linesmen, ball-boys, streakers and policemen, floodlights, TV cameras and even a mini-Her Majesty the Queen to present the FA Cup.

I walked to the village this afternoon - posted letters, went to the cash-point, collected my repeat prescription and did some food shopping. On the way home I met my neighbour Jim in the back lane. He was doing some pruning and general tidying up. One of his children was helping - little E. She's a sweet girl and loves to chat. I spent around half an hour having a nice catch up with them.
The weather today was lovely. Very sunny and quite warm. Typical to have a nice day once the bank Hol weekend is over.
