wild & precious life

Prudhoe Castle

Just peeping through the trees.

The dogs and I arrived too early for a walk in the grounds of this English Heritage castle; everything was still locked up. So we headed to the river and decided to explore the Spetchells (extra).
This is somewhere I had never been before. I wasn't really prepared for what it was! It was quite a high walk over a 1km long chalk hill. Apparently 2.5 million tonnes of calcium carbonate form this mound after being dumped here by ICI when making fertiliser and also explosives for WWII. It was then turfed over so that German bombers could not see it. It is now a site of unusual flora and fauna.

Aqua fit, spinning :-)
+, of course, more work from home :-(
