Bass Rock Photo

The home run - out of Dunbar with barely a breath of wind, sharp at 8am. The promised SSW winds, nowhere to be found. By the time we got to the Bass Rock, a breeze began to fill the sails and propel us along - from the NE. And then, off North Berwick, it swung round to the south and strengthened until we were well heeled over and bishing along at 6.5kts past Craigleith. Callooh! Callay!
But by Fidra that wind fell and came up again, yep a bit on the nose and the sun disappeared. We managed to point to Leith by dropping the gennie and getting the motor on - otherwise it would have been Kinghorn, if we were lucky, so it was a bit of long slog which we survived by overeating. I even opened a cup-a- soup and burnt my mouth, as is traditional.
Home to a warm welcome on the quayside and a very much needed shower. Another joy of the covid precautions - showers out of bounds. Aye, that’ll make all the difference. Don’t get me started. Where was I, oh yes, welcome home!
