Through the ages
Decorating though the ages, that is. On this particular wall in the hall, several layers - plaster covered with terracotta-colour paint, pale blue paint, brown patterned wallpaper, mottled blue wallpaper, wood chip wallpaper and, finally, several layers of magnolia paint. Not a great Blip, but it will be a reminder to me in years to come just how much time and energy I've spent on decorating this flat. Not at all quite what I'd hope to be doing once I finished the day job!
We don't know much about the history of the flat, and so far have been unable to discover much about it. The main part was built around 1850, but the kitchen and spare room are more recent. It seems that there were several residential occupants before us, but at some time it was the top floor of an outdoor clothing shop. Before then, part of it was owned by the Co-op Dairy, and our plumber used to help out there when he was "a lad", around 45 years ago. Before then, no-one seems to know. Decorating is an adventure , and we've come across all sorts of interesting things along the way...
