Second time lucky
Ireland day 8.
We woke to a nice sunny morning so decided to retrace our steps from yesterday’s aborted trip.
Starting from the cottage we turn left towards Killarney, we travel down the single track Bally Beg road for about 2k then turn onto Knockataggle beg where we encounter “tree fellers” cutting the hedgerows, staying on this road another 3k we turn onto Ballynamaunagh
Don’t you just love these road names, the Sat Nav lady was hilarious.
We carry on past Killarney to our first stop the Ladies View. (1) So called because Queen Victoria visited and her ladies in waiting enjoyed the view.
As we travel West towards the Gap of Dunloe on the narrow ,scenic ,winding and crazy N71 we arrive at Moll’s Gap (2) where we leave the main road and head towards the Gap of Dunloe that lies between Macgillycuddy’s Reeks and the Purple Mountain group. At the top of the Gap we meet our first Jaunty car where the pony men just glower at us, we smile and drive on. We then meet a car coming up the pass and Mr P C has to reverse back up the hill, resuming our decent another car came round the bend resulting in another reverse, at last the road is clear so we carry on. Driving Northwards we cross the stone bridge(3) before arriving at the Black Lake. Carrying on our decent we arrive at the Jaunty car station where we were accosted by the pony men. After a short comfort break we headed back to Killarney and home.
Another fine day.
