Cowes

I had a trip over to the Isle of Wight today to see my sister. It was one of those dark blustery days but we had a nice walk along the seafront. I took this picture outside the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes which is the starting point for many races during Cowes Week. The cannon are fired to signal the start of the race - well they always were, I think they still are - though apparently it’s all done automatically from inside the squadron. It makes a loud bang as I recall!
