Looking Up!

I met up with a friend today and we visited Shugborough Hall which was once owned by the famous photographer Patrick Lichfield, but is now in the hands of the National Trust.

Although the house isn't currently open, we wandered around the gardens and grounds of the estate. At the highest point stands this arch - Hadrian's Arch.

The arch was constructed in 1765 and is a copy of Hadrian's Arch in Athens. It commemorates Admiral George Anson, who circumnavigated the globe and was the First Lord of the Admiralty during the Seven Years' War.
