Fossilised tree

We decided to walk up to Quinish as we stayed there as children in the Cuckoo House in the early 1970s.  I last walked up there about 10 years ago and Quinish House looked very run down but today it all appears to have been spruced up with smart navy blue estate fencing.   We wanted to see the standing stones (tick) and the fossilised tree mentioned in the walk books but despite finding all the landmarks we couldn’t see it and spent some time scrambling over fences and through bogs.  We eventually gave up and walked through Mingary and back to Dervaig via the forest which was the worst kind of desolate forestry commission track. Still some beautiful spooky images of broken trees amid the purple shimmer of heather.   When we got home and were looking at pics V suddenly said ‘‘there’s the tree’!  He’d photographed it without ‘seeing’ it.  We didn’t actually get to Quinish Point either although walked about 16km in total.
