Tranquille at Sunrise
The light at dawn can
be magical to behold.
Our world is unveiled.

Tranquille, on the west side of Kamloops, was once home to the King Edward VII Memorial Sanitorium (opened 1907, closed 1958). The climate was said to agree with the treatment of the tuberculosis. This cluster of buildings had a later life as a home for the mentally handicapped and included a farming operation. After that concept came to an end in 1983, the buildings fell into disuse and neglect. Today, it is in the hands of an agricultural and tourism business that's attempting to give it a new life. This rather flat area at the head of Kamloops Lake is a Wildlife Management Area and it supports fish and wildlife. The habitat encourages migratory birds, such as geese, swans and ducks as well as eagles, osprey and falcons. Muskrats, beaver and otter frequent this area with bear, deer and coyote.
