Building progress

Today I planned my walk to check progress on the building site next door. The concrete slab is down, and the frame has been delivered. Surprise – the frame is metal, not wood. Prof Google tells me that steel framed houses are becoming more popular, although timber is still far more common.
 
Perhaps the bushfires this year influenced the choice of a steel frame. We are not in a designated bush fire prone zone, but even so it would surely make sense to build with fire resistant materials. After all we were only 15kms away from the raging fires last January.
