They disappeared
Was in Amsterdam with my son and noticed that these bronze statues have disappreared from the city's square Rembrandt Plein... I was a little like in shock to see them gone! What happened and why?!
The bronze statues were made by two Russian artists; Mikhail Dronov and Alexander Tartynov; they had realised these figures from Rembrandts most famous painting 'The Nightwatch' (the Shooting Company of Frans Banning cocq and Willem van Ruytenburch) in commemoration of Rembrandt van Rijn's birthday 400 years ago (1606, July 15th). And thus since 2006 they're at this Rembrandt square in the city of Amsterdam. It was much loved by visitors to the city, foreigners and Dutch; the locals from Amsterdam apparently liked it or hated it. It's obvious that the city council did not want to waste more money on the statue... no new deal for renting it was agreed and no purchase of the pieces either. So its creators and owners collected the statues as soon as the term ended.
It's unknown where these pieces went to.... I regret it lots that money was the reason for loosing this wonderful bronze statue what brought Rembrandts' painting to life with these life-sized statues! It's obvious I made my blip at an earlier date and just collected it from my files.
have a Good Week you all and please stay safe !
safe from the virus and safe from idiots with guns or knives (young lunatics?!)
