Wet

It seemed like a good idea to go for a walk from Healey Dell, through the beautiful, dark woodland and up on to Rooley Moor. We did not take into account the rotten weather forecast which, for once, was entirely accurate.

After squelching up a steep wooded hill, we emerged on to the Moor, near to a memorial to the Rochdale Millworkers, who supported the enslaved people who picked cotton in the USA during the Civil War. The cobbled track up on to the Moor is known as the Cotton Famine Road.

In heavy rain and low cloud we then got lost as no paths were visible.  We should have turned right before the wrecked car and followed the poorly signed Rossendale Way. We managed to navigate across the moor and safely down to the car park. Very satisfying.
