Down and out ......

Monday. Enough said .
Rain during the night so no harvest today.
Wee brother away to the ram sale at Longtown mart. Kelso Tup sale which is the main sale in the country has been cancelled due to covid so now there are a lot of different sales at different marts round the country. Not ideal, but everyone still needs their annual quota of new tups so needs must.
The vet out to check on the calf that broke it’s leg a couple of weeks ago. However , when he removed the cast the leg hadn’t healed and was dead below the ankle so he ended up having to put it down. So a lot of expense for nothing. Plus will need to get a calf to twin on to the cow , so more costs.
A neighbour in for the last 15 tons of bruised barley this afternoon .
This cow was down with milk fever this morning, which is caused by a calcium imbalance . Gave her a bottle of calcium under the skin, then the vet gave her some IV. She still wasn’t up on her feet tonight so Littlemiss gave her another bottle under the skin while Ross helped me jump on her calf and give it a feed of powdered milk to keep it going until she ( hopefully) gets better. Fingers crossed !
