Cragside

We spent a fair part of the day at Cragside, the National Trust property up on the moors between Morpeth and Alnwick. Built by William Armstrong, the Victorian landowner, it was famed for being one of the first properties to have electricity generated by hydro electric power, using an Archimedes Screw which is still in use.

The house is closed due to Covid but the extensive grounds are wonderful to walk around and so big you can drive 6 miles around them on the old carriage drive.

Mid afternoon we went back to mooch around Morpeth, a fine old market town, and enjoy a meal in the local Wetherspoon's, The Electrical Wizard.

Internet seems to be getting slower here!
