Onion harvest
I used to chop up all my onions and freeze them for use later in the year. Many years ago an Orcadian neighbour told me that was the best way to store them and, although it was a hassle initially, hours of tears, you could simply take out a handful at a time when you needed any. They didn't freeze as a solid lump!
Now we have an airy, sunny lean-to where we keep outdoor gear etc and they ripen and dry wonderfully in there. Our coats and waterproof jackets might smell a bit strange but we have excellent, long lasting onions!
Once they are completely dry I shall string them together and they will hopefully keep us going for a while.
