Ribblehead Viaduct
A much better day weather wise apart from the bracing wind, but you can’t have it all apparently :)
As already decided we were at RSPB Leighton Moss this morning and started at the salt marsh pools. It was frustrating that most of the waders were quite far away at both hides, but we did see another Marsh Harrier and a Peregrine spooked all the lapwings and egrets. We counted 32 little egrets! At one stage, not so long ago, egrets were actually uncommon, but now you seem to be able to see them in very good numbers in many coastal regions, even the Large White Egrets and cattle egrets are becoming much easier to find.
Over at the main reserve there wasn’t too much to see but it was a lovely walk in the sunshine. We shamed some people into sticking to the rules regarding the wearing of masks and maximum numbers in the hides. It’s not much to ask.....especially when there is so little to see.
After we’d seen enough we took the scenic route to Askrigg via Kirkby Lonsdale and the Ribblehead Viaduct. I’ve not seen it before and it’s quite spectacular really. Shame about the light not being very good and the lack of a steam train going across, but I quite like this shot, just taken from the roadside. Apparently we’d just missed a train loaded up with logs.....
Tomorrow, we are, once again, covering some distance to visit WWT Washington (a bit over an hour away) and make the most of our newly purchased membership. I am hoping for some closer shots of some waders. In extras are some redshanks and godwits which were relatively close for all of 2 minutes, until some guy scared them all off just after we had arrived in the hide. Looks like he was checking the water levels and sluice or something.
