Gilbert the Phone Box
I went back into town today to pay in the cheque I'd failed with yesterday. I'm not very keen on buses, although I did get one home yesterday in my rush to find my lost debit card so Colin ran me into Queen Street. As I was walking up to the bank, I came across Gilbert the Phone box. The box is outside the tailors at the foot of Castle Street and caught my eye as I went past. It is a tribute to Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the designer of the red telephone box. It belongs to Save the Children, they bought it for £1. For £3 you can borrow the key from the tailors and have your picture taken in it. More about it and its opening by Ian Rankin last year, here. I guess there will be many people for whom the idea of a public phone box is strange!
Having paid in my cheque I popped into Joules and got a couple of nice things for the girls upcoming birthdays, in the sale I might add. I rather think Isobel will like a pink dress with 2 big glittery unicorns, not sure about her mum, but tough, grandmother's privilege lol.
I headed down into Stockbridge and picked up a couple of nice cards from Homer as I went down the hill. It was so much more pleasant being in the shopping area than it was at the weekend. I'll be avoiding shops over the weekend, so far as I can.
I enjoyed wandering in the unexpected sunshine, didn't go into many shops though. I did pop into the Shelter shop, suitably bemasked of course. I've been regretting for almost a year not buying a big stockpot last year when I was in Inverness and to my delight I came across a beautiful 10l stainless steel one. I did think about how sensible a purchase it was when I was walking home saying it, it weighed around 3kg! Never mind, it's home now, well scrubbed and in pride of place!
This evening we caught up with another episode of Killing Eve, only two more to go now.
More restrictions in England today, I hope people are sensible.
