Mellow
"This day winding down now, at God speeded summer's end, in the torrent salmon sun, in my seashaken house, on a breakneck of rocks, tangled with chirrup and fruit......." (Dylan Thomas). This poem is a perpetual part of my autumn soundtrack along with Wild Swans at Coole (WB Yeats) Both are about autumn and about nature's abundance, but both are also about autumn as a stage of life; fulfilment, mellowness and bounty, all piled up and twinged with fear of the forthcoming demise and an increasingly tenuous grip on things. Apologies, autumn sunsets bring on such reveries! We worked hard in the garden, had drinks and great chat with the neighbours and ate pizza made mostly with leftovers.
