Hadrian's wall - Housesteads Fort

On our way home we intended to walk a section of Hadrian's wall. We booked to visit Housesteads Fort with the intension walking a few miles along the wall but the weather changed and the rain and blustery wind persuaded us to just have a quick look and come home early. I could imagine how difficult life must have been for the soliders guarding this northern part of the Roman empire in the winter- it was unpleasant enough in 21st Century walking gear in September!
